Adani's Mundra Port welcomes the largest container ship

The largest container ship to ever land at an Indian port, the MSC Anna, arrived at AdPorts and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ)'s flagship Mundra Port on Sunday, marking a significant milestone, the company stated in a news statement. The MSC Anna is the biggest container ship ever to call in an Indian port, measuring an impressive 399.98 metres (almost four football fields) in total length and 19,200 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) in capacity. With a 16.3 m arrival draft, it can only be berthed at Adani Ports, Mundra, since no other port in India can handle a vessel with such a deep draft. Approximately 12,500 TEUs are anticipated to be exchanged during its visit. With an overall length of 399 metres and a capacity of 16,652 TEUs, the MV MSC Hamburg is one of the longest container ships in the world. In July 2023, Adani Ports, Mundra broke this record by berthing it. It carried on smashing records far into the second half of 2023. It made history in October by handling 16 MMT of goods in one month, making it the first in India. Additionally, its container port CT-3 accomplished a noteworthy first by becoming the first in India to oversee three million TEUs annually. In November 2023, the terminal set a record for monthly handling with over 3,00,000 TEUs, the most of any terminal in India. The statement by the port highlighted that Mundra's evolution into a vital hub for both domestic and international trade is a testament to its strategic planning and world-class facilities. Spanning over 35,000 acres, it is India's largest commercial port, equipped with deep draft and all-weather capabilities. These enable the efficient evacuation of cargo and significantly reduce turnaround times for vessels, making it an attractive destination for major global shipping lines. The statement further said that the arrival of MSC Anna at Mundra not only highlights the port's capacity to handle mega ships but also reflects its pivotal role in enhancing India's maritime trade capabilities. As APSEZ continues to expand and upgrade its facilities, the port is set to play an increasingly significant role in the global shipping and logistics landscape.
