Ellenabad railway station becomes 3000th to get free Wi-Fi

Ellenabad, a town located in Haryana to the north of the Ghaggar-Hakra River became home to the 3000th railway station in the country to have free public Wi-Fi. The station falls under the Bikaner Divison of North Western Railway similar to Rana Pratap Nagar, which was the 2000th station to get Wi-Fi.

The move is seen in the backdrop of Indian Railways’ promise to equip all stations with Wi-fi, barring halt stations, in accordance to which RailTel is trying to reach its target. The first phase of the development was marked by providing Wi-Fi at 1600 stations throughout the country. The RailTel team has now joined hands with Tata Trust for setting up systems at the remaining stations in the country.

The country-wide project is based on giving a boost to the digital growth of rural India which is symbiotic with ease of access of smart-phones and upcoming free Wi-Fi at the stations.

The services are being provided under the name of ‘RailWire’ and will be available to passengers who have smart-phones and a working mobile connection. To access the Wi-Fi the user has to enter their mobile number and simply type in the OTP they receive through an SMS.
