Lakshadweep islands to consume only green energy

Andaman & Nicobar, and all Lakshadweep islands will switch their non-renewable energy sources to renewable sources for all their requirements, to meet the goals set by the Centres. He also added that the Ministry has given the Islands (Andaman, Nicobar, Lakshadweep) the target to convert all their energy sources to green and renewable energy.

In an earlier session of the RE-Invest summit, RK Singh had also offered cooperation to the Maldives for taking up the sustainable path of renewable energy. At the session, he also repeatedly addressed India's progress in terms of meeting its commitments which were made under climate change mitigation goals.

Further in his address, RK Singh also mentioned the statistics of green energy projects. He said that India has installed about 136 GW (136,000 MW) of renewable energy capacity with the addition of more 57,000 MW under implementation. By 2030, India targets to achieve 450 GW of Renewable Energy capacity. Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas, said that India is in the middle of a vast transformative shift in its energy sector, which will help in demolishing energy poverty in India.

With this transformation, the objective of the energy sector is to enhance availability and affordability of clean fossil fuels and green fuels, and also reduce the carbon footprint through a healthy mix of all commercially-viable energy sources, added Dharmendra Pradhan in his speech.

Pradhan also said, they are setting up 12 2G ethanol bio-refineries in 11 states with an overall capacity of 1,100 KLPD, under the National Biofuel Policy (NBP) of 2018 for promoting biofuels in large scale with a target of 20% ethanol blending in petrol and 5% of biodiesel by 2030.

The participants were also invited to look at the investment opportunities in the CBG initiative. Pradhan talked about the SATAT initiative and their targets of setting up 5,000 CBG plants with a target of 15 mmtpa with an investment potential for $20 billion. There was a mention of 1,500 CBG plants which are at various stages of execution.
