Leh air force station gets region’s largest solar plant

The scenic Union Territory of Ladakh gets the largest solar power project. Set up at the Leh India Air Force Station, the project is constructed under the government’s Make In India initiative. The project was worth Rs. 120 crore.

The solar power project was named ‘Provision of Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant 1.5 MW’. A defence spokesman mentioned that it had been completed within 12 months, well before the completion deadline of 31 March 2021.

Out of the target of 300 MW in three phases for the defence sectors and the 14 MW for the Leh region as set by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, this is the largest installed solar project to date.

This project has been claimed to be quite beneficial for Ladakh and the Indian Air Force station situated at Leh. The solar power project at the IAF station will help in replacing the fossil fuel-generated energy with solar power energy, proceeding India towards sustainability.
